This alphabetical list is very helpful for everyone who is new at the University of Mannheim. Make sure to check out all the highlighted links as well since they are updated regularly.

The University of Mannheim adapted its semester dates to the ones of important partner countries, to make exchange easier. The current academic calendar is here .

The International Office provides a limited number of dorm rooms for exchange students from overseas and offers support in finding private rooms. The International Office only intermediates the housing process. The official landlord of the rooms in residence is “Studierendenwerk Mannheim”. It is necessary to apply early because there are not enough rooms at the beginning of the semester. Check also Facebook for AStA´s “Couchsurfingbörse” to find a bed last minute.

If you have decided to study at the University of Mannheim, your home university can recommend you from May 15 until July 15. To find further information how to apply, click here. If you do not find answers to your questions on the many websites online, you should have a look on the economic´s International Affairs Coordinator Christiane Cischinsky´s website as well and meet her during office hours if necessary.

The ecUM (electronic card University Mannheim) is your student identification card, library card and enables cash-free payment in the Mensaria, EO, Café Soleil and the printers. You can validate it and charge your account at the SB-Terminals.

The EO is the biggest university cafe in the east wing of the Ehrenhof. You can enjoy coffee, cold bevera

The Express-Service in L1 is your first point of general inquiries as well as for questions regarding the Internation Office. Here you can schedule appointments, hand in and pick up documents and receive general information. For opening hours check here. It is also the place that handles your whole enrollment.

The University of Mannheim has about 650 exchange programs and cooperations with almost 450 partner universities worldwide. Furthermore many international courses of study and double degrees are offered. Semester times are adapted to conform with the international rhythm – lectures are from September to December and from February to June.

The janitor is responsible if you lost or broke something. He is located at the east wing´s gate. Lost things are placed in the display cabinet in the east wing as well.

The faculty building of economics is in L7, 3-5. In this building is amongst other things the PC Pool (first floor, room 153) where you are able to print very cheaply starting at 2 cents per page.

The Library of the economics department, the Hasso Plattner Bibliothek, is located on the second floor of the central part of the Ehrenhof. The University offers a great stock of about 350 thousand books as well as many E-books in the database. But there are many more library buildings such as in A5 or A3. You can use any one of these, so choose the one that you like the most. For opening times and more information see the website of the UB Mannheim or get the official library app.

In the middle building, A5, A3, the economics and the management library are lockers free to use for everyone. Please keep in mind that you need you ecUM to lock them and they are only locked during the day.

The Mensa is closely located by the castle and is easily reached by foot from every lecture hall. Here is also a cafe and an information center of the students union (Studierendenwerk). You can always look up the menu on the internet or via the official apps of the Universität Mannheim and the Studierendenwerk.

To enter the system (portal2, ILIAS or email) you need your identification that you got from the computing center via email after enrollment. To see recent information go to their website .

Rooms are named referring to the part of the castle, floor and room number, e.g. M003 is the Middle building, ground floor, room 3. You can find a map here.

The transport company around Mannheim – the VRN – offers a reduced price semester ticket to all students. Go to the ticket office of the Deutsche Bahn at the central station Mannheim to ask for your semester ticket if you need one. Usually, it is cheaper to buy an old bicycle or use the VRN Next-bikes which are free of charge with a student account and all over the city.

There are many possibilities to be committed in student societies, e.g. the students union of economics, the AStA or many more societies with different topics. Look out for their “Kick-Offs” in the first two weeks of each semester and discover what you like most.

The institute for sport offers a broad variety of sports activities at different locations which are mostly free of charge for all students. This is a good opportunity to meet new fellow students. You can find the current sports program here.

Do you want to improve any more skills? The Studium Generale offers many language and IT-courses as well as different cultural events.
